One big success in my business the past year has been the growth of a Youtube channel I manage. A huge reason for my success was using Riverside.fm. In fact, it helped me get 3.4 million views in 2023 on Youtube.
Some of you know I'm the producer for New Testament scholar, Bart Ehrman's, popular Youtube show called the "Misquoting Jesus Podcast." On the show, you can see Bart and Megan talking side-by-side, like they're in the same room.
Guess what?
We use Riverside.fm to do this, and I must say that since the first time I logged in, I've found the platform intuitive and easy to use. That's exactly what I (not a video expert) needed so I could focus on the content instead of complications.
In this article, I'll share with you how to set it up and tell you a bit more about Riverside.fm.
Riverside.fm's Key Features:
Here's a quick overview of what Riverside.fm offers.
- It's a browser-based platform compatible with iOS, Android, and PC
- It records in 4K and captures audio locally (to your device), which is independent of internet speed
- It has a free plan, with paid plans starting at $15/month
- Provides an editor for creating HD split-screen videos
- Allows for easy editing and exporting of the final video
Setting Up Your Video Room:
This is pretty straightforward. You make an account, set up your room where you'll record, and invite your guests like you're having them over to dinner. Riverside.fm gives you a simple link they click to join.
Capturing Conversations in 4K:
Recording on Riverside.fm feels like you're using a filmmaker's camera. The platform’s 4K capabilities means you could see Bart and Megan’s expressions in crystal-clear definition. It really feels like they're right there in the room with you.
Note this is an affiliate link so we'll earn a commission if you purchase Riverside.fm - at no additional cost to you. Thanks!
How to Record a Split-Screen Video with Riverside.fm:
- Build Your Studio: Make a studio. You can reuse this every time. Choose how you want things to look.
- Invite Your Guest: Send a link to your guest so they can join in one click. No need to download anything.
- Press Record: Welcome everyone and start your show.
- Magic Time: After recording, use the Magic Editor to put the videos side by side.
Editing with Ease:
We have a video editor make all the post-production edits so we honestly haven't used this feature much but you can do some trimming, splicing, and stitching with the Riverside post-recording editor. You can also use Riverside’s customization tools to add your unique branding elements like your logo and custom frames. Again, we don't use these features but if you're a one man/woman show, they can really help the production value.
Sharing Our Show:
When we're done, we make the video look fancy with our logo and stuff, then we share it with everyone. It's that easy, and it's a big reason why lots of people watch our podcast.
Why I Like Riverside:
It's like having a super camera and mic in your computer. Everyone looks and sounds great, even in 4K video, and it's all just through the web browser. And the best part? You don’t have to be a computer genius to make it work.
So that's how we make those awesome side-by-side videos. Riverside.fm helps us a lot, and maybe it can help you too if you want to make videos like ours.
