Jenny Blake, creator of Life After College, is in the house to talk about (in extreme detail) her rise as an author, entrepreneur, blogger, and online brand builder. And for some extra fun, Jenny and I both reveal the exact terms of our book deals with our respective publishers to let you know a little more about the book industry.

You should definitely tune in, because you’ll learn:

  • How Jenny came up with her brand and got started.
  • How she built her audience/fans.
  • How she went from blog to book (all the juicy details).
  • The results, how she got burned out, and what she did next.
  • How she is shifting her business model and what is working now.

Create Awesome Interviews Update:

In case you missed the memo, I’ve opened back up my most popular training product – Create Awesome Interviews – which is my complete system for creating, promoting and profiting from online interviews. What it really is about is teaching you how to build your credibility, relationships, traffic, list, etc by interviewing the influencers/thought leaders and rock stars in your niche. Listen to what one of my students, Jeff Hicks, had to say:

“I coulda saved my money, slogged through the process of building an interview show and made a bunch of mistakes in order to learn what David shares in Create Awesome Interviews. I probably would never have got the first interview up. I am still making mistakes. But I have a frigging INTERVIEW SHOW. I am making better mistakes, learning from them and growing my show, rather than struggling with the basics and wishing I had a show. Create Awesome Interviews showed me (sing along) This is how we do it… I’ve done it and am getting better every day. Get the program, you can do it too.”

Jeff’s show can be found at

If you want to get in and this sounds up your alley, head over to to find out all the juicy details.

  • Fun chat with your female mediapreneur twin.  Thanks for opening the kimona regarding your book deals and things you wished you’d done.  Look forward to getting my shit going too.

    • David Siteman Garland

Boom! Get that shit rolling…that sounded bad…

  • Rosemary

I really enjoyed this one!  Question for Jenny…what is that collage of graphics that’s on the wall behind you?  Is that a vision board or something? Sorry to get personal, but I was intrigued.

    • David Siteman Garland

We like it personal here in RISE nation haha

  • JB,
I absolutely love your honesty in this interview.  Three thumbs up.  You go Girl!
Thanks for getting her on the show.

    • David Siteman Garland

       She rockkssssss (and rolls)

  • Great interview! Thanks for being so honest. You’ve motivated me to be more explicit about what I have to offer and how it’s different from other people’s experiences. Keep up the good work!!

  • Dean Phillips

Do you think bloggers can ever be classed as authors (without a real book i.e only ebooks/articles)?

    Loved this interview so much

    • That’s a tough question. Really – I think it’s how you present yourself (I think you need to teach people how to treat you). I would call myself an author if I had an eBook, but I probably wouldn’t if I was just blogging (on my own platform – if I was writing articles for another platform, I’d consider myself an author). There’s a certain level of professionalism and depth one expects from an author, and I feel like that goes beyond writing on your own platform. But then again – that’s my interpretation of that word. 🙂

    • David Siteman Garland

Yah, I agree with Lisa. An author has a body of work in book form. Might be an ebook, etc. but a book.

  • Sbutler

Terrific interview. Loved Jenny’s honesty and her story. I also loved that she built everything organically and by developing relationships with people she found interesting. This has given me courage to move forward with courses and digital products. Thanks again.

    • David Siteman Garland

Definitely. Take the courage and be a lion…like the Wizard Of Oz.

  • Irina

Wow – Jenny comes across as such an honest and sincere person. Amazing interview!

    • David Siteman Garland

She most definitely is! Thanks for tuning in!!!!

  • Great Episode David!
