Two big questions I get all the time:

  1. “David, how do I land big time guests for my (blog, show, whatever)?”
  2. “David, how do I get amazing press (for myself, business, blog, show, whatever)?”

So, I hunted down a great guy to share how he has done it (because that is what RISE is all about…teaching from experience, as opposed to fluffy theory).

Graham Bensinger is an interesting character (to say the least) and has a lot of insights and experience we can learn from (to say the least). A few highlights:

  • Currently hosts “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” – a multi-platform sports video interview series (online, mobile, TV,) airing through Yahoo! Sports and on regional television and international television.
  • Best part? This all began when Graham launched an Internet-based sports radio station in 8th grade. Yes, 8th grade.
  • He has an incredible resume of guests that he has interviewed, including Muhammad Ali, Pete Rose, Adam Sandler, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and hundreds of others.
  • Graham has appeared on all kinds of shows, including Late Night with Conan O’Brien & The Tonight Show (among many others).

In today’s interview, you are going to learn the “Graham Bensinger method” if you will, and learn how he landed such big press and guests. All kinds of juicy ideas. Enjoy!

About Today’s Guest, Graham Bensinger:

Graham BensingerGraham Bensinger, age 24, currently hosts, “In Depth with Graham Bensinger,” a multi-platform sports video interview series (television, online, mobile) airing through Yahoo! Sports, on regional sports television networks across the U.S, thru international sports television network Setanta Sports airing in Canada and Australia and Africa and Ireland, and through

Previously an NBC Sports and ESPN contributor, Bensinger’s career launched with an internet-based sports radio station he developed in 8th grade. In August 2003, Bensinger’s show began airing on Sporting News Radio and then moved to ESPN Radio the following year. “The Graham Bensinger Show” began airing on SIRIUS Satellite Radio in 2006.

While seemingly a rookie by industry standards, Bensinger’s experience is more like that of a seasoned veteran. His list of interviews range from broadcasting icons Mike Wallace and John Madden…to legends Muhammad Ali, Pete Rose, Jim Brown, Dan Marino, and Pete Sampras…to today’s newsmakers including Barry Bonds, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Venus & Serena Williams, Commissioner David Stern, LaDainian Tomlinson, Mark Wahlberg, Adam Sandler, and Rev. Jesse Jackson.

In November 2005, Terrell Owens sat down with Bensinger exclusively for one hour and his comments in the interview led to his suspension from the Philadelphia Eagles for the final nine games of the NFL season. OJ Simpson granted Bensinger rare interviews in February 2004 and July 2005.

Bensinger’s work has aired on NBC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, & FOX Sports Net. The programs include SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, Sunday NFL Countdown, NFL Primetime, NFL Live, Cold Pizza, and The Best Damn Sports Show Period.

During Summer 2007, Bensinger traveled extensively throughout Asia & Africa. Some visits included Tiananmen Square, Terracotta Warriors, The Great Wall, Kibera Slums, going down in Great White Shark Cages and off the world’s highest bungee jump.

When he’s not working in sports, Bensinger enjoys running and mountain climbing. His goal is to scale the highest mountain on each continent. So far, Bensinger has summit Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Rainier as well as 35 other mountains above 14,000 feet.

Bensinger attended Syracuse University and works in television while continuing his radio shows.
