Hey David, just a quick question for you after listening to this interview.

Elliot mentioned how he got blasted by of his viewers on Youtube.  I noticed you don’t have a link to Youtube on your site, so I went over and looked on Youtube and it seems you do have an account over there, but it doesn’t have all your videos, and it is not as regularly updated…

Just curious as to your rationale for not utilizing this site in promoting your show…

    Thanks..

    • David Siteman Garland

Andrew – Great question. I’m a big fan of YouTube, but since the beginning my show has really focused on on-site traffic especially with sponsors, etc.

I enjoy putting video blogs on there and maybe if I had more time I’d put all the episodes up there..or have my VA do it 🙂

Also, some tip-based videos I’m working on could be perfect for YouTube.

  • I got so many great takeaways from this interview that I watched it twice. I think, and correct me if I’m wrong, that this is the first time Thoreau and Emerson were mentioned on the show? Well done! 🙂

    • David Siteman Garland

Melissa – Hah! DEFINITELY a first. What were some of your top takeaways?

      • I’m a former English major so I appreciate it! 🙂

There were so many takeaways, but I guess a few of the best were
1- Elliott actually went a little deeper than the usual “be authentic” answer to emphasize the importance of stepping back and taking the time to know who you are…don’t just replicate what others are doing…and then said that is much easier when you have a following and cashflow, which is so true because the pressure is off. The whole discussion on creativity was great.
2- His strength training analogy was easy to grasp – it’s physically going to hurt for him to lift 600lbs. but that is the only way he is going to get to lift his next goal of 610lbs. The same is true for growth in other areas of life.
3- The way he tweaked just one thing he was doing (started emailing regularly/daily) and that tripled his income. It is often true that if we just modify what we are doing slightly we can have very different results. And it is important that he was tracking what he was doing because that is the only reason he was able to notice the cause & effect.
4- I think too what you said about shaking things up with a 30-day experiment is important, too. Not only because it gets us trying things that might have a dramatic result for us, but also because it is a 30-day experiment, not something we try once and then drop. I think many entrepreneurs fail because they don’t do things regularly, don’t track and measure and are too afraid of changing things up to be bold and try something new.

        All great stuff!

Thanks Melissa, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

I’ve listened to many of your interviews (which never disappoint), but I have to say this has been one of the most impressive for me by far.  Elliott was very candid and digs a little deeper into the feelings and psychology of creating products and having your own business.  Also, considering the fact that he mentioned many times about how impulsive he is, his thoughts were extremely coherent and articulate.  It really stings a bit, like a wake up slap in the face, with the simplicity of it all. The message of, “I wanted to do it, so I just did it.” He did it again and again without over complicating the process.

I honestly think this is a common or recurring theme, but something about the way he explained it, just sounded so simple, and made me feel like an idiot for over-complicating everything I do.

Thanks so much for creating awesome interviews!!!

Mike – That’s awesome to hear my man. Really appreciate the comment!
