  • I don’t agree with the Social Media answer he had (surprise surprise) 

    1. The site is called SOCIAL triggers. 
    2. In the next question after what he spends too much time on, he says he is constantly promoting and connecting. How if you’re going to limit your SM interaction? 

    I’m sure since he already has a list, it’s easy to work it and grow it. Folks like us, need to build our list and without the social media tools it’s a major chunk of traffic. 

    My post popular blog posts and highest traffic days come from people like Chris Brogan and David Meerman Scott posting my links because I connected with them. 

    Overall, I really liked the interview and I like the other methods he has. Certainly will listen to it again and subscribe to his site.

        I think the underlining point he was trying to make regarding social media was..

        Are you creating value or are you playing around on Facebook or Twitter?

        Combine that with his stats on email vs. social media conversion.

        Also, you’re creating value on those social media sites and not your own.

          I agree Brad. Well put and that is exactly what he meant and I think it is something many of us (I know am) are guilty of sometimes.

        • Sure thing. I guess I see any traffic being sent from SM to my blog as valuable in one way other than conversion.

    • For the record, I just started building Social Triggers heavily in the past few months. So, I essentially started with zero people on my list.

      I limit my connecting on social media because getting a tweet from a big name person only sends a few hundred hits… if that. 

      I rather send people personal emails, and get those emails opened and read. Those personal emails net much better results, and still allow you to connect with people.

      • Certainly like your methods, especially if they work. 

        Are you cold e-mailing thought leaders in our field or are you cold e-mailing folks that are engaged with these leaders (like David) in social media and blog comments? 

        • I don’t need to cold email thought leaders in our space because I’m friends with most of them… 

          I often reach out to thought leaders outside of our space that may like my content though. I don’t do it often, but when I do, I make sure I send personalized emails and of course just open the dialogue.

          Right now, social media made connecting over email a second priority, which is just plain silly. Connecting over email is much more personal.

    Loved the Interview with Derek Halpern.
    “Take Action” was probably the insight that caught my attention the most.
    When I first started this Journey I wanted to Learn EVERYTHING!
     I kept thinking I need to wait until I knew more before I “Launched” if you will.
    However, thanks to the countless advice from YOU and from your Guests I have taken the advice and have “jumped off the cliff”….and it has been so exciting!
    As with all of the Interviews it is important to take the “lessons” that pertain to each individual person.
