David what happened to your “Boom!” lol I used to love that. This was a GREAT interview. I love it when guests actually provide value to listeners as opposed to getting on a soap box and ranting about irrelevant side issues. I think we have the radio for that lol.

But seriously, Corbett Barr really took everyone step by step and what I loved about him the most is that he never got sidetracked. He always quickly brought things back and made sure he finished the key points even during joking moments. People usually forget and move on.

I think the overwhelming thing so many of us face is having to create a ton of content along with trying to get the word out and network with fellow bloggers. There really is a ton to do.

Here are some of the hard things bloggers have to face that no one talks about:

I found that Corbett is right, if you’re blogs are relevant and valuable google picks it up but the hard part is:

    — actually figuring out how to do all the work.

I truly believe most people KNOW what to do but the hard part is figuring out how to actually do it. I know no one can really hand hold someone and get them to take action but people need steps broken down into little pieces which is what I liked so much about Corbett’s strategy.

    Creating a schedule

For me, the number one thing that worked is — creating a schedule.

Just sitting down and thinking ok what are the most important things I need to get done this week that’ll bring me a good return and then creating an exact time and day for it this week.

That way you can really measure whether or not you’re getting things done.

The hard part: getting the work done.

The hardest part is really effective brainstorming properly and creating the time for yourself. Other than that I really do believe the work itself isn’t the road block, although I could be wrong.

So along with Corbett’s great talk I’d recommend brainstorming the most important things and creating a schedule for yourself. Period. The reality is you can’t do everything so you have to pick your battles.

And if you never sit down with yourself and really think and create how things are going to map out you’ll just be on a never ending merry go round that gets you lost.

David: I recommend interviewing someone who can really discuss how bloggers can really break down their hours into doing the right work. So so important!

I.e. not time management, but managing projects and important tasks.

In the meantime, I recommend just talking with a friend and saying hey can you help make me a schedule. You’d be surprised how effective that is, because people love telling others what to do and it’s hard to see the big picture yourself when you’re inside of it.

Just some thoughts. Keep rocking David and Cornett!

Super insightful comment Omar. Folks will get a lot out of it!

      1. Галина Беляева says:

….and here you go, David! Now you have guest posts on The Rise To The Top:)))

As always, I loved the interview.
I actually didn’t realize Corbett Barr was such a nice guy. Had to pause the interview many times to take notes and digest.

        Thank you guys,

  2. Awesome interview guys!

I am already a student of Corbett Barr at Start A Blog That Matters but it was nice to remember that I shouldn’t be freaking writing about me.

Something I still forget all the time. Thanks for the interview David.

PS. Hope you make it to IronMan 2 page cover magazine too. Voted for ya a few times. 😉

    1. David Siteman Garland says:

Sergio – Really appreciate it and fingers crossed re: iron man 🙂

  3. Ginodb says:

I came across this interview by sheer luck! This is awesome! Thank you for all the cool advice and information – it basically contextualises what I am doing, and neglecting to do!

    1. David Siteman Garland says:

       My pleasure Gino!

  4. This is a great example of how giving leads to sales. Because I’m damn close to diving into Corbett’s program. David, liking and disliking these PowerPointish interviews. Like them because they are visual. Dislike because I like listening to them on the go and can’t watch them.

    Such is life!

And also — I’m going to e-mail Corbett to ask questions only because he said we could. If he didn’t I likely wouldn’t be as compelled to buy. Just some things to mention in the name of transparency.

    1. David Siteman Garland says:

Anthony – Great to know and now it causes a challenge: Video? Audio? Video and audio? Ahhh!!! 🙂

  5. Love the new shows David! Teach us more!  Seriously, I really liked this guy – on point, no fluff, transparent, down to earth, real! Thanks for sharing!

    1. David Siteman Garland says:

Haha much more to come 🙂 My pleasure!

  6. John Colley says:

Hi David and Corbett – a great interview (yeah another great interview!).  Really enjoyed the podcast and now relistening to make notes.

Just to make a small contribution to the discussion; one of my best ways of growing my list is the most simple.  When I meet people in business and we exchange cards, I just ask – Please may I send you an invitation to my Blog Mailing list?.

If they need an explanation, I tell them what is in the auto responders, where they can click to download my eBook (at the moment they can do this without having to give me a signature – I am working on a second ebook which I will make part of the sign up process) and the benefits of the information I will email them.

9 times out of 10 they say yes.  I am also going back through my business card collection, putting those aside not on the list and when I speak to them, its one of my key questions.

I then put their name and email into my sign up form and they get the aWeber confirmation.

    Simple but effective.

Thanks again to you both for a most informative episode.
    best regards

    1. David Siteman Garland says:

Thanks for sharing John. Certainly effective!

  7. Mr.B says:

Very informative, even in 2014 it is not outdated and makes sense. Thank you.
