The Hardest Thing About This Business (PERIOD)

by David Garland in General

The other day I was nabbing a little Starbucks (aka my “other office”) when I checked my email…

“DSG..what would you say is the HARDEST part of the online courses business? #hardquestions -Sara”

First of all, my appreciation for a hashtag in the email is massive so hat tip to Sara on that one.

I put some thought into this big question (and, um, A LOT of caffeine) and here is the thing.

The HARDEST part of this business isn’t coming up with amazing ideas for your course (or next course).

The HARDEST part of this business isn’t building a tribe/crew/whatever-you-want-to-call of amazing people who know, like trust, subscribe and buy from you.

The HARDEST part of this business isn’t launching your course.

The HARDEST part of this business isn’t ongoing sales and scaling well beyond your launch so you are 24/7 cash machine.

So, what is the hardest part of this business?

The hardest part of this business is actually doing the work.

Not talking about doing the work.

Not talking about talking about doing the work.

Not avoiding the work with one of a million distractions out there.

Not coming up with excuses for not doing the work (I’ve heard them all LOL).

Not getting distracted by shiny red balls. The latest social media platform you “have to be on OMG!” or the latest software that “everyone seems to be using!”

The hardest part of this business is putting on your work boots (or hard hat whatever analogy you are into today) and following the models and roadmaps of people who have gone before you. Doing it.

Getting your course created. Getting it up online. Launching. Analyzing. Tweaking. Continuing to market & promote. Bringing in new customers.

There are always new tools. New platforms. New whatever. New distractions. New excuses. New conversations to waste time.

Those that win do the work.

*Truth bomb*

*sort-of-mic-drop?*
