    1. What equipment to use.
    …camera and audio in particular

    2. What software to use.

    3. How to edit material into smooth, professional content.

    4. How to export files to upload to YouTube.
    …or if YouTube is even the best place to host videos

    Essentially, the entire process. : )

    I know answers are everywhere, but they’re also spread like crumbs throughout the Internet, hard to uncover and piece into a coherent whole.

    I’d love someone to walk me through the detailed sequence of steps, from what to use, how to use it, how to edit it, how to upload it, and how to ensure it plays safely across platforms.

    This would be an excellent product for me and anyone else looking to add a video component to their business.

    I have thought about it and here’s one attempt at it.  Now the film maker is in Chicago now so no camera crew, but I still have my Mac so may take a stab at it this year.  Would love to know what you think

      Nice job. I think the coolest shows are the ones without fancy production too so don’t let a lack of a film crew deter you.

    Hey Dave, I don’t really have anything holding me back since I have already started but I do have a quick question.

    It doesn’t seem that you use headphones when you do the interview and so I was wondering if you get an echo?

    I started using gotomeeting and unless I use an earbud for my speaker, the other person hears an echo.

    Any thoughts?

      Yah, I definitely don’t use headphones. Hmmm I’ve heard an echo a few times but not much and it doesn’t show up in the recording…

    What’s holding me back is not fully understanding all the work involved in coming up with content, knowing what to focus on in terms of topics as a starting point, what needs to happen to generate viewers, how to get quality guest speakers etc.  It would be great to have a simple outline that tells you exactly what needs to happen so you can follow it and keep on track.

      Rob – Got it. Definitely good questions and I promise to not only cover that in the “Create Awesome Interviews” Course but also show you literally everything I do in real time to shoot edit etc. (sort of like you are sitting on my lap LOL minus the awkwardness)

    Once in a blue moon I think about it cause I think it would be fun and interesting, but I just don’t have the time and there are other things I want to accomplish more at the moment. That said for your course you should do a behind the scenes doc of all the steps it took before and after an actual interview of yours (showing the researching, headaches of follow upping, after the interview promoting it) and a section on bloppers and some coaching of what to do when there are the dreaded crickets in the room (interviewee not talking or giving one word answers) could also add in some good clips of great Ellen degeneres, Johnny Carson etc… Moments and also a portion on how your body language and facial expressions effect the interview once again you can show other famous talk show examples (ex when that lady was interviewing Charlie sheen you could do like a football coach stopping the video and pointing out how her facial expression were no good/good) even could show the evolution of someone like Oprah over time – how she changed her voice. Another good one is that interview with the guy with the feminine voice and the host could not stop cracking up. Just a few ideas for ya!

  8. I have started but my problem has been scheduling and keeping it consistent. I did have some difficulties recording a few interviews but that was due to my error. Overall, my biggest problem is being able to interview/film at a specific time and day each time.

      J – Yah, I’ve noticed that can be tricky. What I like to do is make sure to schedule in advance and I have set times I like to schedule on a specific day and if you do so in advance, you will show up (no excuses since the guest is ready to go)

    I’ve often thought about it but I always wonder if I have enough material to keep it going.  I’m afraid I may run out after two or three shows.  I guess my question is how long should a show be and how can I expand the material.

    Thanks to a bit of help from David — Ok, a lot. I started my online interview video show last year for the credit union industry and it has been a ton of fun (103 shows and counting!). Very grateful for David’s help.

    I publish twice a week usually every Tuesday and Thursday. The shows are well received and people are now coming to me to get on — instead me begging and pleading when I first started. Consistency and educational content are keys to credibility. My biggest problem is keeping the interviews short. I can’t. They usually run around 20 minutes. My goal for 2012 is to get them down to around 10 minutes. But when you get talking on a compelling tangent, it’s hard to say, “Well, we’re out of time. Thanks for being on the show.” It’s too much fun to stop. In addition, guests love to link the shows to their websites.

    Stop “hemming and hawwing” and just do it.
