I was browsing through Facebook friend requests the other day and noticed I had 27 requests from logos.

After I punched myself in the face, I posed a question on Facebook about whether people accepted friend requests from logos or not.

Most, of course said, no. And for different reasons. Some said they want to be friends with people and not logos…because who knows who is behind it (a cat, an intern, Santa Claus). Others were just pissed at the misuse of the technology, specifically on Facebook. Meaning, fan pages are for businesses or individuals and personal pages are for people only. Those using logos and their company name are “doing it wrong.” I agree with both.

But there is a larger issue here that I believe is super important (or even hyper-important…the next level up from super important). Especially for passionate, hustling entrepreneurs, creative artists, and mad scientists like us.

We have the advantage when it comes to social media over bigger brands and those that “don’t quite get it yet.”

When you are a solopreneur, freelancer or hustling, smaller entrepreneur you get to be YOU. There won’t be a debate with 4857576 lawyers, a board, a marketing firm stuck in 1992 focusing on campaigns, or an old-school PR firm trying to get you to “create a press release in 140 characters!”

The real magic of social media is human connection. Authentic human connection. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather connect with “Amber” and her face and quirkiness as opposed to “Super Sausage Marketing Company” (or whatever…I hope that was made up).

And I get it. Logos allow you to scale if you want and allow for some brand recognition. Some folks will argue the logo to death. Let them. While they are arguing about it, all of us will be out there forming real relationships…with people.

What is your take?
