I love new direction Gary Vaynerchuk is going with his new Daily Grape brand which includes short daily web shows, a really useful iPhone app and a paid newsletter subscription. What are your thoughts?

  • David, I believe the monetization concept is a very smart one. Gary has built up a huge community of supporters over the years. Many will “repay” him for all the free content they receive. The pricing also leaves enough room to capture a large enough subscriber base. There are rumors that the newsletter will offer specials that are quite creative 🙂

Great points. The thank you economy in literal action. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Markus brings up great points. I love great simple design and I think his new site is pure ART. Elegant in it’s simplicity.

And design definitely matters. Separates the men from the boys and women from the girls.

      • I noticed the recent changes to the Rise site, I really like a lot about the new design, it looks clearer and easier to find stuff. One thing I was wondering about is that the video player is below the fold, your shows are your key content and I’m interested in the rational behind the placement.

I see at as right on the fold…hmmm…

          • On my laptop it is below the fold.

Interesting. Thanks for letting me know.

  • He’s a smart guy and knows exactly what he’s doing I’m sure 😉 I think it’s awesome to somewhat reinvent yourself or branch off to something along the same lines. Of course not everybody likes change obviously and those that don’t won’t be as quick to like what he’s doing. You know him he’s going to make it awesome and blow it up with some amazing things for us. So can’t wait to see it all and definitely enjoying the episodes he’s done already.

Way to get the juices flowing David!

Ashley – And always seems those scared of change/evolving are rarely successful 🙂

  • It’s good to see him out on location in different places. That plain wall in the back of his office was getting a bit stale! The mobile aspect is a huge win and the money never hurt either. I agree with Markus that his fans will “repay” him for the years of free content that he has produced. I wish him well.

B – You will see in my latest interview with him going up on Tuesday that is one of the things he points out…he felt like Wine Library TV was awesome but was getting a bit stale.

He has been preaching the “mobile model” for some time now and I think he is jumping in with this new approach in a big way. Not sure about the newsletter element (just does not appeal to me personally) but if he plays his cards right (and I’m sure he will) the mobile app could really lead to a shit load of new fans and eventually $$. He has the team to develop an app that really turns the wine world upside down, and I expect nothing less from that bad ass dude!

    • David Siteman Garland

Exactly and what is nice about Gary (besides always evolving and trying new things) is he is willing (and in the position in) to create those streams later on.

  • Great post. Left a video response on YouTube for you.

Great thoughts. Left you a response 🙂

  • Good points, I found that change over brave, but then innovation is key to longevity.

  • Hey David! This business model evolution looks very interesting, downloading the app now for a quick look. Perhaps the ‘newsletter’ is a way to test peoples appetite for the desired future product… a subscription based tablet app (with or without advertsing and/or supplier sponsorship)?
