Wanted to share something super quick with ya.

A web show is NOT a business.

What? Have I been taking drugs? Have I lost it? What the $%#@?

Check out what I’m talking about in this super quick vid. Oh, and my ear is fine (despite the huge bandage on it). 😉

I use RISE partner LeadPlayer for DSG TV which helps me build my list with video check ’em out here

Another cool tip David – that is very very important for people to understand and yes a lot of people still think it is a business if you have a web TV show.

My TV show is exactly what you explain in this video – a fantastic platform for educating, building trust, relationships, my list and everything you have spoken about – one thing you forgot to mention is that it is also FUN and you get to meet great people like me when you have a web TV show (haha)

You got it down whoop whoop 🙂

Agreed on it being a “platform” but the format we’ve created IS a business, business model, with feature sets, advertising, customers that run the line of progression, etc. I do agree that there needs to be MORE than just “the show” though. Leverage was probably your best insert there, and there’s no denying that the show/podcast instantly takes your skill set to a different level and helps to create a fanbase that can then remember you/tie you to things that you sponsor, services that you offer, etc. Great stuff, David!

Mike I feel ya for sure. I’d say about 1% of shows that make money are where the actual show is the business. And even less when you start getting into a decent amount of money (6-figure, 7-figures, etc.).

  • Super important for people to get this concept, there are heaps of very awesome, very well-meaning content creators who expect to magically monetize one day. Tell’em the hard truth! And love the freezeframe, haha

LOL you like that? Funny thing. YouTube just did that randomly. Thanks YouTube for making me look like a jackass.

Forgive this if it is a duplicate reply, it looks like my comment went into the twilight zone.
David, your title, at first, shocked me (probably as you intended). But it is correct. What’s interesting about this is that a web show looks to the viewer like a credible business. And from here, they might be willing to interact, share, come back, leave their information, etc. So… when the show host does ask for money (for a book, webinar, coaching call, etc.), the viewer is more willing to trust the show host with their money. So, it looks like a credible business… and a successful show host is aware of the fuller picture. It’s a platform to leverage products, services, authority, etc.

Well a credible business or brand has a way of making money. And that is the business model. A show is a platform to help build the biz brand.

  • David, just stumbled here from blogcastfm (not affiliated btw). I think what you are saying here is true not only for web shows but also for blogs and other content driven websites.

Another important aspect pertains to what you are doing in this show, and that is education. Sometimes educating a potential prospect can build credibility and turn a prospect into a customer if your content is about promoting products. My two cents!
